Beatitudes

You may be surprised to hear that it is not just the sermon on the mount that contains beatitudes.  Revelation contains a number of these sayings as well and you will never guess how many there are... that's right 7.

Beatitudes or macarisms (from the Greek word makarios which means blessed) come in two different forms the first is a wisdom formula and the second an apocalyptic formula.  Below are some examples of these two formulas.

Wisdom
Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. Job 5:17
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. Psalm 1:1
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Psalm 40:4

Apocalyptic
Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. Daniel 12:12
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

Revelation's beatitudes follow the apocalyptic formula and listed below are the 7 beatitudes from revelation.
